Tisa Silver Canady Receives Honor From Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition

Tisa Silver Canady, MBA, associate director, Office of Financial Education and Wellness, was honored as Consumer Volunteer of the Year by the Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition (MCRC) during the organization’s annual awards dinner, held in November in Clarksville, Md.

As a financial educator, author, and volunteer, Canady has worked long and hard to show students and Maryland residents the value of financial education and help them understand how to protect themselves in the marketplace. Her efforts included hosting an on-campus screening and panel discussion of the MCRC documentary film, Driven to Defraud, in partnership with the School of Social Work Financial Social Work Initiative (FSWI) and the Office of Student Development and Leadership (OSDL). In 2015, Canady will continue such partnerships in order to provide University of Maryland, Baltimore students with free tax preparation assistance, free credit reports and reviews and workshops on topics including investments, home buying and student loan repayment.
