DNP student receives DAISY Award for work on UMMC unit.

Alex Hernandez, a student in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist specialty, was recently honored with a DAISY Award for his work in the University of Maryland Medical Center Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU), where he is employed.

The DAISY Foundation expresses gratitude to nurses with programs that recognize them for the extraordinary compassionate, skillful care they provide patients and families. By honoring compassionate nurses, DAISY reinforces the importance of compassion in health care. The foundation says “thank you” to nurses everywhere through a recognition program, The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses. Through this, they honor the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day. Nurses are nominated by anyone in the organization - patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, other clinicians, and staff - anyone who experiences or observes extraordinary compassionate care being provided by a nurse.
