IDEA Team's Alexis Guethler Presents Research in Online Pedagogy

Alexis Guethler, an instructional designer for the IdeaTeam, presented her original research at two conferences this fall.  The culmination of a mixed-method intervention study in asynchronous community college classrooms, Alexis found that students who participated in a reflective intervention on their learning process employed better self-regulation skills and experienced a lower feeling of psychological distance from their professors in 8-week courses.

Last month, Alexis was invited to present her fully integrated approach to mixed methods research as the Graduate Student Research Methodology Showcase winner at the 100th annual Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) conference.  She shared her intervention at the Online Learning Consortium Accelerate Conference the following week.  Alexis' intervention, the Self-regulated Learning and Online Mentoring Protocol (SRL OnRAMP), is adaptable to asynchronous courses in any subject and educational level. Feel free to reach out to Alexis at alexis.guethler@ssw.umaryland.edu for more information on integrating self-regulation practices or academic mentoring into online or face-to-face classes.
