Associate Professor Dr. Darren Whitfield and colleagues have a new paper published in Sexually Transmitted Diseases that explores the psychosocial historical roots of stigma and shame around sexuality in the African American community. The authors describe the relationship between slavery, medical mistreatment, and the depiction of African Americans in society to the current HIV epidemic and rates of sexually transmitted infections.
