Marianne Cloeren, MD, MPH, FACOEM, FACP

UMSOM associate professor receives American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Meritorious Service Award.


American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine's (ACOEM) Meritorious Service Award is presented annually to a member who has provided meritorious service to the college.

Marianne Cloeren, MD, MPH, FACOEM, FACP, associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, is the recipient of this year’s Meritorious Service Award. A member of ACOEM since 1991 and a fellow since 2005, Cloeren is honored for the consistent leadership positions she has held within ACOEM and her component society. Among her many achievements, she has provided outstanding leadership in three major areas: developing and revising the OEM competencies; teaching in the area of work fitness and disability prevention at several levels; and addressing OEM coding issues.

Cloeren has also played an important role in ACOEM’s educational efforts. She has been a frequent presenter and conference organizer for the American Occupational Health Conference and Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and a tireless developer of written and electronic educational materials.  Cloeren has served ACOEM as a member of the Board of Directors and currently chairs ACOEM’s Direct Education Programs Oversight Committee. Her work has consistently helped raise the profile of ACOEM and the profession of occupational and environmental medicine.
