Michael Schlossman

Michael Schlossman serves on the Presidential Panel on the 50th Anniversary of Mass Incarceration at the American Society of Criminology conference.

Dr. Michael Schlossman was a panelist on the Presidential Panel: 50th Anniversary of Mass Incarceration at the American Society of Criminology (ASC) conference in Philadelphia on Nov. 16. He spoke about how, despite large decreases in youth incarceration rates over the past 25 years, a system of mass youth confinement continues to exist in certain locales. Schlossman also argued that researchers partnering with juvenile justice agencies to evaluate the impact and implementation of interventions with youth and families should go out of their way to talk with youth and families, observe court hearings, and visit residential facilities and community-based programs.

In addition, Schlossman organized a thematic conference panel entitled “Pennsylvania Juvenile Justice Activism and Reform: Past and Present,” which created a dialogue between reform advocates from the 1970s and today’s advocates who are lobbying for significant reform legislation.
