Faculty trio receive seed grant funding from UMB Center for Interprofessional Education to address pressing global health concerns.

Shailvi Gupta, MD, MPH, FACS, clinical assistant professor, University of Maryland School of Medicine; Carlos Faerron Guzman, MD, MSc, director of the InterAmerican Center for Global Health-Costa Rica and an adjunct faculty member, University of Maryland, Baltimore Graduate School; and B. Elias Snyder, MS ’14, FNP-C, ACHPN, clinical instructor and director, Office of Global Health, UMSON, have been awarded a $20,000 seed grant from the University of Maryland, Baltimore's (UMB) Center for Interprofessional Education for the project "Ethics, Decolonization, and Social Justice in Global Health."

It is widely understood that no one perspective, be it cultural, ethical, political or academic, can develop the best solution to a problem alone, particularly at a population level. Through facilitated collaboration and knowledge-sharing among students and faculty from diverse health professions, a more inclusive and holistic approach to global health at UMB can be developed. This interdisciplinary and integrated approach will enable the development of innovative and equitable strategies to address pressing global health concerns and contribute to the advancement of health equity and improved population health outcomes.
