Geoffrey Greif and Ann Gantt (PhD graduate of UMB)

Geoffrey Greif and Ann Gantt (PhD graduate of UMB) publish a new article in Reflections: Narratives of Professional Helping journal.

Reflections on the Loss of My Grandson: How Life Events Change Social Work Practice. This is dedicated to the memory of the first author Gantt’s beloved grandson, DeVonte.

This personal account provides insight into Gantt’s perspective as a grandmother and former victim advocate who tragically lost her young Black grandson at the hands of another young Black male. At the time, Gantt was working as a school social worker. In this piece, I and second author Greif detail how Gantt received support from both colleagues and clients. Gantt's experiences have contributed to her growth as a social work practitioner as she continues to navigate and find meaning in her loss.
