Drs. Iris Cardenas, Laurie Graham, Marcela Sarmiento Mellinger, and Laura Ting recently published an article in the Journal of Health Care Law & Policy. Grounded in intersectional and socioecological perspectives, this critical commentary explores the complexities of intimate partner violence victim-survivors' interactions with the legal system and related implications for their autonomy and well-being. Drawing on practice experience and research, the authors argue for a multifaceted approach to addressing intimate partner violence that takes into account the unique strengths, needs, and challenges of diverse victim-survivors, advocating for trauma-informed, healing-centered practices and culturally responsive interventions.
