A group of UMSON faculty and staff members recently co-authored an article, “Nurse Leader Perspectives on Precepting in a Graduate Nursing Administration Practicum,” published in the December issue of the Journal of Nursing Administration.

Contributors include Linda Hickman, PhD '98, RN, FACHE, assistant professor; Laura Petri, PhD '09, RN, NPD-BC, assistant professor; and James Connors, MA, academic coordinator.

The article describes a qualitative study of practicum experiences as perceived by preceptors of graduate students in a nursing administration practicum. The eight nurse leaders interviewed provided invaluable feedback for structuring nursing administration practicums and sustaining resilient academic-practice partnerships. Key themes that emerged from their experiences were professional and personal growth, transition of education into practice, academic partner engagement and support, time, and contributions to the organization.
