PhD candidate Tural Mammadli, Associate Professor Dr. Darren Whitfield, and colleagues published a new article in the International Journal of Transgender Health. This article examined the association between exposure to gender identity conversion (GICE) efforts and adaptive transition decisions & identity exploration among transgender and nonbinary persons. Analysis revealed GICE exposure was linked to a higher chance of transition interruptions due to interpersonal coercion relative to uninterrupted transition. However, GICE-exposed participants did not have a higher chance of identity-related transition interruptions relative to uninterrupted transition.
