BSN students, faculty advisor attend National Student Nurses Association Annual Convention.

In April, 12 students from the University of Maryland Association of Nursing Students (UMANS) at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) attended the National Student Nurses Association's 72nd Annual Convention in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Each day UMANS students attended plenary talks, breakout sessions, and skill-building workshops. Students also had the opportunity to network with nurses, educators, and other professionals in the industry.

This year, four fourth-semester students developed a poster as part of their independent study. The poster discussed how the UMANS Engagement Program encouraged involvement in UMANS. This program offers points to nursing students for engaging in UMANS activities. Students who earn the most points each semester are acknowledged for their involvement. Participating in this convention is an essential component to professional identity development.

Students and their faculty advisor, Marisa Astiz-Martinez, MS ’13, RN, RYT-200, are grateful for the support they received from the UMSON Office of Academic and Career Success, the BSN associate dean and program directors, and the USG faculty for making this experience possible.
