UMSSW Student Gulayat Hajiyeva Joins Anne Arundel County School Leadership Academy.

MSW student Gulayat Hajiyeva has been selected as a member of the International Parents and Community Leadership Academy (IPCLA) of Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS). This prestigious appointment provides an opportunity to enhance communication between international families and schools, ensuring diverse perspectives are represented and supported within our county.

In this role, Ms. Hajiyeva will focus on addressing critical issues related to hate, bias, and bullying in our educational community. The urgency of this work is underscored by recent data from the Anne Arundel County Health Department, which reported 546 bullying incidents during the 2016-2017 school year—a concerning 66% increase from the previous year.

As part of her leadership responsibilities, Ms. Hajiyeva is dedicated to collaborating closely with parents, students, and county school administrators to amplify the voices of those affected by these incidents. Her efforts will also concentrate on advocating for proactive measures and policies aimed at cultivating a safer, more inclusive learning environment for all students.
