Dr. Jennifer Kelman presented a workshop entitled, Advancing Child Welfare Training Through Immersive Avatar-Based Learning Environments, at the National Staff Development and Training Association (NSDTA) Conference held October 5-8, 2025.


Dr. Jennifer Kelman, Director of the Child Welfare Academy, presented at the National Staff Development and Training Association (NSDTA) Education Conference on October 5, 2025 in Norfolk, VA. 

Her workshop, Advancing Child Welfare Training Through Immersive Avatar-Based Learning Environments, highlighted the transformative potential of Augmented Reality (AR) in child welfare training.  Dr. Kelman showcased how AR can enhance workforce preparedness by offering practice opportunities and real-time feedback in a risk-free environment using realistic scenarios that mirror the situations they will encounter on the job. 

The session also featured a demonstration of the platform and scenarios developed in partnership with the purveyor, Dialogue Trainer, offering insights into implementation strategies, challenges and best practices.
