PhD student Peiyuan Zhang and colleagues published a mixed-methods open pilot study evaluating a culturally tailored community brain health education program for Chinese Americans aged 50 and above. The program was developed to address linguistic, cultural, and socio-economic barriers to dementia prevention in this population. It included six sessions covering topics such as Alzheimer’s disease, diet, sleep, physical exercise, health checks, and mindfulness.

Results showed significant improvements in participants’ brain health knowledge, sleep quality, and motivation for healthy lifestyle changes, along with a reduction in depressive symptoms. The study concludes that culturally tailored community education is a promising approach to promote brain health and preventive behaviors among Chinese American older adults.
