Faculty awarded an Alzheimer’s Association Research Grant.


Sarah Holmes, PhD, MSW, (top left) assistant professor, was awarded a four-year $150,000 Alzheimer’s Association Research Grant (AARG) for the project, "Meaningful Activity for Residents with Dementia in Assisted Living," through the Alzheimer’s Association International Research Grant Program. Findings from the study will inform best care practices aimed at optimizing meaningful activity (participation in activities that are tailored to the individual’s interests and preferences) for persons with dementia that decrease behavioral symptoms of distress and improve their quality of life.

The co-investigators on the project will be Elizabeth M. Galik, PhD '07, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP, (top right) professor and chair of the Department Organizational Systems and Adult Health; Barbara Resnick, PhD ’96, RN, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP, (bottom left) professor, Sonya Ziporkin Gershowitz Chair in Gerontology, and co-director of UMSON’s Biology and Behavior Across the Lifespan Organized Research Center; and Shijun Zhu, PhD, DrE, (bottom right) associate professor.
