Cheung is Co-Investigator on a New National Cancer Institute R01 Grant
Assistant Professor Christabel Cheung, PhD, will serve as co-investigator on a new project entitled, “Social genomic mechanisms of health disparities among Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) cancer survivors.” Funded by the National Cancer Institute’s R01 funding opportunity.
Led by Dr. Bradley Zebrack (PI) at the University of Michigan School of Social Work, Dr. Cheung and a team of interdisciplinary colleagues will collaborate with the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group-American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ECOG-ACRIN) research infrastructure and the National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) to implement this five-year prospective cohort study of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer patients.
The purpose of this study is to identify and define functional genomic pathways through which current and past psychosocial and social-environmental risk and resilience factors influence gene regulation in AYAs, and thus contribute to a greater understanding of health disparities in post-treatment cancer survivorship.
