PIEC program co-director appointed to the Maryland State Department of Education’s Inclusion Leadership Team.


Kate Wasserman, MSW, LCSW-C, co-director of the Parent, Infant, and Early Childhood (PIEC) Program at the School of Social Work’s Institute for Innovation and Implementation, has been appointed to the Maryland State Department of Education’s Inclusion Leadership Team by the State’s Assistant Superintendent for the Division of Early Intervention and Special Education Services.

The committee advances Early Childhood High Quality Inclusion Grant technical assistance activities which are focused on advancing effective evidence-based inclusion policies and practices within the State’s comprehensive birth through age 21 education system. The committee aims to ignite cultural and attitudinal shifts in order to narrow the achievement gap for students with developmental and educational disabilities, birth through age 21, across a continuum of services.

Ms. Wasserman will represent the Pyramid Model, an evidence-based framework for promoting healthy social and emotional development among young children, throughout the state.
