We know that many of you are registered voters in your home states and care deeply about voting in the November elections. To support University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) community members in exercising your right to vote in fall 2022, the Thurgood Marshall Law Library at the Francis King Carey School of Law has launched an initiative to assist voters in requesting absentee or mail-in ballots and connecting them to in-person voting information — including Maryland residents.

Each state sets its own rules for out-of-state voting. The Thurgood Marshall Law Library provides tools and practical support, including:

  • State-by-state instructions on how to request a ballot;
  • In-person assistance in requesting absentee or mail-in ballots starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 20 at the Thurgood Marshall Law Library. We’ll help you navigate the steps in YOUR state, including providing envelopes, postage, and notarization guidance (if your state requires it).

Now is the time to start the process if you haven’t done so already. You must submit a request for an absentee or mail-in ballot in time to receive the ballot, vote, and submit it by your state-authorized deadline. You can ensure your vote counts by attending the Absentee Ballot Event at the Thurgood Marshall Law Library to get support requesting your absentee ballots.

We encourage all UMB community members — including Maryland residents — to request absentee or mail-in ballots and vote. All voters are encouraged to come to verify their status and request a mail-in ballot to ensure a streamlined, early voting experience to avoid unanticipated potential barriers to voting that may come up the day of the election.

Visit the law library's guide on how to request a ballot for more information. Any questions about this event can be sent to libref@law.umaryland.edu.
