For UMSON Faculty

In alignment with the UMB Strategic Plan, the Leadership in Education: Academy of Presidential Scholars (LEAPS) Council of Schools serves a strategic and visionary function, including the formation of operating, steering, and subcommittees, who establish criteria and processes for use of designated resources to achieve the educational objectives of the LEAPS initiative.

LEAPS objectives are focused on educational advancement and development of faculty, for example, recognizing teaching excellence. The LEAPS initiative aims to complement the professional development work already occurring in each of the schools, expanding the community of educators available for collaboration and support.

UMSON seeks nominations from faculty who are interested in a University service opportunity by participating as members of the LEAPS Steering Committee, which will provide leadership and membership for subcommittees and provide a report to the LEAPS Council of Schools semi-annually on goals and accomplishments.

Members of the Steering Committee are expected to lead and/or serve as members on at least one of the subcommittees and recruit appropriate additional membership (faculty or staff) from each school as necessary.

Each inaugural faculty member on the Steering Committee will serve a minimum three-year term. Each school may seat up to five Steering Committee members.

If you are an UMSON faculty member interested in participating, please send your name by March 21 to Susan Bindon, associate professor and associate dean for faculty development, at sbindon@umaryland.edu.
