Kick off First-Generation Celebration Week at UMB and join the Intercultural Center and the School of Social Work's First-Generation Student Success Program for food, fun, and community. At our social hour, you'll have the opportunity to meet first-generation students from across UMB's seven schools.

In this panel discussion, attendees will hear from students, staff, and faculty at UMB who identify as the first in their family to go to college and/or professional school. They will share their experiences navigating their personal, academic, and professional lives as first-generation students and the resources that have supported them along the way.

Being the first in your family to attend graduate and/or professional school can be an experience full of pride, but it also can feel confusing and isolating. In an effort to build a greater sense of belonging and community for first-generation students, the Intercultural Center is partnering with the School of Social Work's First-Generation Student Success Program to develop Universitywide First-Generation Community Circles open for all UMB students!
Unpacking Upward Mobility with Low-Income, First-Generation Students

For students who grew up in poor and working-class communities, pursuing a higher education and becoming upwardly mobile can be a tumultous experience, filled with both pride and struggle. In this session, low-income first-generation students are invited to unpack these experiences in a safe and brave environment.
