The University of Maryland, Baltimore's (UMB) Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion is happy to welcome Wei Ming Dariotis, PhD, who will serve as our assistant vice president for equity, diversity, and inclusion. She began her appointment on Dec. 5.

Dr. Dariotis previously served as faculty director of the Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching and Learning. She was a professor of Asian American studies, an affiliate faculty of the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program at San Francisco State University, and lead developer of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Pedagogies of Inclusive Excellence (JEDI PIE) Institute. She is a trusted leader in anti-racist pedagogy who presents on issues related to Asian Americans and anti-racism in academia.

Dr. Dariotis' interests and research include critical mixed-race studies, queer and mixed-race science fiction, fantasy literature and media, community-based arts and culture, Chinese American literature and culture, Asian American women in academia, anti-racist academia and academic leadership, anti-racist assessment, JEDI faculty development, ethnic studies pedagogies, and ethnic studies composition.

As the new AVP for equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) at UMB, Dr. Dariotis will support and lead high-level University high-impact EDI initiatives and programs to advance University leadership development and capacity building. She will also provide direction and consultation on designing, developing, and implementing a Universitywide accountability framework to complement and advance our current work in assessment, strategic planning, and development. She will also represent the vice president and chief equity, diversity, and inclusion officer and the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion on internal and external committees and advisory bodies. Her responsibilities will also include leading and advancing grant writing opportunities that strengthen institutional inclusion, diversity, equity, justice, and anti-racism initiatives and programs.
