From NIAAA: The Healthcare Professional's Core Resource on Alcohol

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), a part of NIH, has launched The Healthcare Professional’s Core Resource on Alcohol to improve care for patients whose use of alcohol is affecting their health. This new online resource updates and expands upon the former NIAAA clinician’s guide, Helping Patients Who Drink Too Much, which was incorporated into curricula at many health professional schools.

Alcohol causes or contributes to more than 200 conditions across all body systems, and alcohol-related deaths have been on the rise since the pandemic. The need for healthcare professionals to deliver high quality, high impact care to patients who drink alcohol has never been more pressing. The Core Resource on Alcohol provides background knowledge and practical resources, including quick alcohol screening and assessment tools, to meet this vital need. Free CE credit is available for faculty and students who are in practice.

The Core Resource on Alcohol offers current, evidence-based content about alcohol and health, covering basic principles, clinical impacts, and patient care from screening through recovery. Its practical, user-friendly content was developed with the help of more than 70 contributors, including many practicing healthcare professionals. We also provide Additional Links for Patient Care from many authoritative sources.
