Gladwin and Hutchins

Mark T. Gladwin, MD, and Renée McDonald Hutchins, JD, the new deans of the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, respectively, will assume their new roles on Aug. 1.

Gladwin, a leading heart, vascular, and lung physician-scientist, comes to the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was the Jack D. Myers Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and founder of the Pittsburgh Heart, Lung, Blood, and Vascular Medicine Institute.

Hutchins, a leading expert on the Fourth Amendment and criminal appellate practice, is returning to UMB after serving as dean and professor of law at the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law since 2019. Previously, Hutchins had worked at Maryland Carey Law for 14 years in pivotal roles on the faculty including as the Jacob A. France Professor of Public Interest Law, co-director of the Clinical Law Program, and founding director of the Appellate and Post-Conviction Advocacy Clinic.
