Volunteers Needed for HIV and Tobacco Smoking Brain Study
June 09, 2022The Department of Diagnostic Radiology is conducting a study to evaluate the long-term effects of HIV infection and tobacco smoking on the human brain using cognitive assessments and brain MRI and MRS scans.
Who can join?
Adults without prior heart disease or stroke, not receiving diabetes medication(s), and not having other chronic medical conditions who:
- Are ages 18-75 years old
- Speak English
- Are able to complete an MRI scan
- Do not have any chronic medical illness
- Meet other study criteria
What procedures will be done?
- A screening visit
- Answer questions and complete tests to evaluate your brain function, and a brain MRI and MRS scans

Health Sciences Research Facility III, 670 W. Baltimore St., Baltimore, MD 21201
Compensation
Participants will be compensated up to $100 for their time (for completing all procedures).
