Food pantry items on a table

Studies have indicated that there is a direct connection between not having enough nutritional food and student success. The UMB Student Food Insecurity Fund was created to help support the success of students experiencing food insecurity in or around campus.

Since opening in November 2021, the UMB Student Food Pantry has:

  • Fulfilled 87 student food requests
  • Prepared 50 meal kits distributed monthly at campus pop-up events
  • Received monetary gifts from 75 individuals
  • Accepted two 1,511-pound deliveries of food from the Maryland Food Bank to support students
  • Received in-kind donations from Pompeian, H&S Bakery, McCormick & Company, Domino Sugar, and Ikea
  • Installed lockers in the SMC Campus Center that provide students with a confidential and convenient means of picking up food requests
  • Obtained funding through the University Student Government Association to support the purchase of lockers, dietary food items, and hygiene products.

You can help reduce food insecurity at UMB by making a one-time annual or payroll deduction gift, ensuring that our students can continue to fuel their bodies and minds.
