The American Cancer Society (ACS), Northeast Region, will host a webinar presentation, American Cancer Society Extramural Discovery Science Grants Workshop, Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 2-3:30 p.m. Staff from the ACS Extramural Grants Program will present an orientation to the funding mechanisms available for the April application cycles.

Doug Hurst, PhD, scientific director of the Biochemistry and Immunology of Cancer program in the Extramural Discovery Sciences department, oversees peer review and grants management in areas related to DNA and RNA mechanisms, immunology and blood cell development, and tumor biochemistry and endocrinology. Hurst also manages the Mission Boost Grant Program that specifically supports translational research projects that move into human testing. 

Nicole Lopanik, PhD, research rogram manager, is responsible for organizing the peer review process for research grant applications in the Biochemistry and Immunology of Cancer Program and management of the large portfolio of grants in this program.

Pulling from their respective areas of expertise, Hurst and Lopanik will discuss program features, such as eligibility requirements, and provide insights for preparing a successful application.
