Universal Breastfeeding Sign

We encourage you to follow and participate with us on this topic all month long!

Did you know breastfed babies have lower risk of disease and breastfeeding reduces the mother’s risk of chronic conditions and ovarian cancer? The theme is This is Our Why.

Here are the five goals set by the World Health Organization to increase education, awareness, and advocacy:

  1. Breastfeeding as the norm for feeding babies and young children

  2. Breast milk as the preferred source of nutrition for babies and the best source of overall nutrition

  3. Breastfeeding as protection for babies and children against diseases in childhood and throughout life

  4. Breastfeeding as the means for parents and children forming a strong emotional bond

  5. Breastfeeding as a safe, renewable food source in natural disasters and emergencies
