This message is being sent on behalf of the Office of Facilities Management:

Dear Staff and Faculty,

As we enter the colder months, we understand the importance of maintaining a comfortable working environment. While we appreciate the need for warmth during the colder seasons, we must ask that all employees promptly cease using space heaters within the building.

The building’s electrical systems are carefully calibrated to accommodate the power requirements of various devices. The use of space heaters continues to overload our electrical circuits which then results in loss of power to multiple areas within the building. This includes the loss of power to you or your neighbors’ computers and phones, potentially causing loss of work to you and those around you. Space heaters also create false temperature readings for our HVAC system which results in inadequate heating and cooling throughout the building.

If you feel cold (or hot) in your workspace, please submit a helpdesk ticket with facilities and we will adjust the heat for your area with the campus HVAC team.

Should you have any additional questions or concerns please email Megan Meadow at megan.meadow@umaryland.edu. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Students, faculty, and staff, let your voice be heard!
