Kahlert Institute: From Discovery to Recovery

The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) announced the Kahlert Institute for Addiction Medicine on May 31, 2023.

The mission of the Kahlert Institute is to transform the prevention, treatment, education, and research of addiction across Maryland, integrating currently disparate groups to create synergy for systemic change. Its vision is to reduce death, illness, and the impact of addiction, especially in disproportionately affected communities in Maryland, and to serve as a national model of innovation in addiction prevention and mitigation.

The Kahlert Institute is led by associate directors Sarah Kattakuzhy, MD, MPH; Asaf Keller, MD; and Eric Weintraub, MD, with operations lead Kelly Coble, LCSW-C. The primary focus of the Kahlert Institute is to develop breakthrough innovations in addiction research and to foster interdisciplinary education and expand regional partnerships.

The Kahlert Institute aims to cultivate a collaborative community of individuals involved and interested in addiction research, care, and education.
