Join the UMB Writing Center, along with Baltimore City College, the Baltimore Teachers Union, and many other local schools and organizations, to support the F.E.A.S.T. drop-off food drive led by the Baltimore Student Union (BSU).

As “a grassroots collective of Baltimore City Public Schools students working to make space and build community for the voices of disenfranchised, marginalized, and ignored city schools students to be heard,” the BSU aims to recognize the traditional Thanksgiving holiday as “a colonizer’s holiday” that follows historical and ongoing “appropriation of the heritage and customs of Indigenous people” and as a “class barrier” that serves “those who are fortunate to have food, shelter, and family.”

The F.E.A.S.T. food drive responds by promoting mutual aid and community care as “the people’s tools for ensuring safety and well-being” of all Baltimore City students.

Drop off canned beans, corn, and yams; instant mashed potatoes; boxed mac ‘n' cheese, stuffing, and gravy mixes; canned soups and broths; and crackers, nuts, etc. at the UMB Writing Center in the SMC Campus Center, Room 307, during workday hours and on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. If the center is closed, you can place your items in the lobby area of the third floor, and Writing Center staff will collect them. Please label your items “F.E.A.S.T. food drive.”

Donations are accepted until close of business, Friday, Nov. 17.
