September marked the launch of the UMBrella Coaching Program’s sixth cohort with a team of 14 incredible coaches and over 60 staff and faculty participants representing schools and offices across the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

During the program’s virtual orientation, program alum, Mary Phelan (Cohort 3), media and public relations manager, School of Nursing, shared with newcomers her reflections of being in the program. Her message to the group for staying inspired: "Consider saying yes to new opportunities that come your way just as you said yes to being in this program.”

The cohort year kicked off with an in-person workshop, “Own Your Awesomeness,” presented by Chanise Reese-Queen, EdD, MSA (Cohort 3), executive director, Professional Development and Education, Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development at the School of Medicine. Workshop attendees explored perceptions of self-promotion and practiced bragging about their accomplishments, which included donating a kidney, publishing an article in a national newsletter, buying a new home, and passing the Project Management Professional Certification Exam, just to name a few.

Over the next several months, participants will engage in coaching group discussions and attend a lineup of panel discussions, presentations, and networking opportunities. Best of luck to the women on their new journey of personal and professional growth!
