Celebrate Campus Sustainability Month with the UMB Office of Sustainability
October 14, 2024October is recognized nationally as Campus Sustainability Month. This October, the UMB Office of Sustainability will be hosting various events and initiatives across campus to celebrate sustainability. We welcome all members of the UMB community to participate!
Upcoming Events:
Field Day: Get Outside, Make Time for Play with URecFit and Wellness

- The field day will have multiple stations that include lawn games, crafts, plants, and yoga centered around reconnecting with nature and wellness. Light refreshments will be provided. This event is a collaboration between URecFit and Wellness and the Office of Sustainability.

Climate, Health, and Policy in Maryland: An Interprofessional Symposium

- Come spend a day of active learning with national climate change and health equity thought leaders, UMB and University of Maryland, College Park faculty and students, and local climate nonprofit and community groups.

- This hybrid town hall will provide updates to the UMB community on progress toward the Sustainability Strategic Plan, communicate ongoing and new campus sustainability initiatives, and address feedback and suggestions from the UMB community.

Meet the Founder: The Crow's Nest with The Grid

- This Meet the Founder event features Leonardo Martinez-Diaz, a climate activist and policy expert, photographer, and arts advocate originally from Mexico City. Martinez-Diaz founded The Crow's Nest in Baltimore and currently serves as the managing director for climate finance in the Office of the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate. The Crow's Nest is "an art incubator that provides workspace, social space, and exhibition space for anyone seeking to address the twin challenges of climate change and environmental justice." This event is a collaboration between The Grid and the Office of Sustainability. Lunch will be provided.

Let's Grow Together: A Plant Workshop with Victoria Meadows

- An educational event about house plants, including the benefits of having them and tips and tricks for caring for them. Attendees will get a chance to take home a plant of their own. This event will be led by Victoria Meadows of UMB's Office of Enterprise Risk Management. This event is a collaboration between the Office of Enterprise Risk Management and the Office of Sustainability.

- Drop by our base camp at the beginning of your shift to check in and get supplies. Swing back by the base camp at the end of your shift to drop off your full trash bags! If you are a staff member who is interested in using one to four hours of paid volunteer leave for this event, you can view and print the required paperwork found on the Community Engagement website.
