National Day of Racial Healing Graphic

Dear UMSON community,

As we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 15, we reflected on the enduring legacy of a visionary leader who tirelessly advocated for justice, equality, and civil rights. We draw inspiration from Dr. King's commitment to social change and inclusivity, fostering an environment where diversity is celebrated, and the pursuit of a more equitable society is embraced. Let us use Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a catalyst for meaningful conversations, introspection, and action. Together, we can contribute to the realization of Dr. King's dream both here in the School of Nursing and in our broader community.

Additionally, Jan. 16 recognizes the 8th annual observance of the National Day of Racial Healing. “This day provides an opportunity for individuals to come together to acknowledge the values we share as people, build trust in one another, develop authentic relationships, and inspire collective action to heal from the effects of racism,” according to the Kellogg Foundation.

If you would like to talk more about opportunities to advance racial healing and racial equity in our community, please reach out. I encourage you to check out the events happening across the country and resources available here. I’m very excited about this year’s National Day of Racial Healing and look forward to UMSON offering events in the future that allow us to heal.
