group of LANUM students

Members of the Latinx Association of Nurses at University of Maryland (LANUM) recently had the pleasure of empowering students who are part of the Liberty's Promise program at John F. Kennedy High School in Montgomery County alongside Priscilla Aguirre, DNP, CRNA, CRNP-AC, CHSE, assistant professor, and her students.

Liberty's Promise aids disadvantaged immigrant youth by equipping them with the tools to engage in activities, pursue further education, and embark on fulfilling career paths.

It was a heartfelt experience where LANUM members shared personal struggles and upbringings as first-generation Latino students. Through candid conversations, LANUM students aimed to inspire and connect with the high school students, showing them that despite obstacles, success is attainable through perseverance and education. LANUM demonstrated practical skills, such as taking blood pressure readings, and showcased life-saving equipment with the expertise of CRNA professionals. By imparting both knowledge and personal anecdotes, the group hoped to ignite a sense of determination and possibility within the students, empowering them to pursue their dreams and overcome any challenges they may face.
