One of the top priorities of the SSW and UMB is information technology security. A system has been developed to identify campus-owned equipment that requires prompt attention for necessary security updates and software patching.

Each week on Monday at 10 a.m. an email will be sent from sswcomputerservices@ssw.umaryland.edu alerting people who need to have their devices updated and/or patched. This email will contain an asset tag # that corresponds to the device that needs to be updated. You can check that tag # on your device to ensure that this email is legitimate. The email will include instructions for either setting up a virtual appointment or dropping off your device to SSW Computer Services in 4e39.

It is essential to complete this process within 5 business days to avoid potential security risks and ensure continued access to SSW systems.

Beginning in spring semester, January 21, 2025, you will receive 4 weekly email notifications before the team must take precautions by disabling your device. These notifications include (1) employee only (2) plus supervisor, (3) plus Associate Dean of Instructional Technology Clark Shah-Nelson and (4) plus Dean Postmus. Failure to comply with security patching over 5 days after the fourth notice will result in the device losing network access.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
