Thanksgiving turkey feast

Project Feast is a student organization at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) that puts together a free Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day. This year’s event will be held Nov. 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Booker T. Washington Elementary School for the Baltimore community. This year, we are sponsored by the University Student Government Association of the University of Maryland, Baltimore and the Medical Alumni Association of UMSOM.

In addition to providing a meal, we connect our guests with a variety of community resources and have a large collection of donated clothing, blankets, toiletries, and pantry staples available to meet their more immediate needs. For the past 34 years, this event has been held on Thanksgiving Day at Booker T. Washington Elementary School in West Baltimore, and has fed hundreds of people. Last year, we served about 450 guests with the help of 140 volunteers!

Here’s how we could use help (anyone can reach out to us at projectfeastumb@gmail.com):

Volunteer: Help us transport and store donations, bake turkeys, advertise in the community, and volunteer serving the day of the event.

Host a screening: We especially are looking for student groups interested in partnering with Project Feast for the day of the event to offer helpful community resources and/or health screenings such as blood pressure screening, medication guidance, etc.

Donate: You can place gently used clothing, nonperishable food items, and toiletries in collection boxes around campus, such as those in SMC Campus Center lobby and medical school lobby.

Sponsor: Direct donations for the cost of a turkey, meal, coat, or any amount are always welcome and appreciated. Donors can visit this link: Project Feast Donation 2024.

Please sign up to volunteer using this link: Volunteer Sign Up-Link 2024.
