The UMB Workplace Mediation Service (WMS) supports UMB employees in having a different type of conversation to address conflicts and plan for a better future. We are recruiting volunteers to expand our roster of mediators. We will train our second cohort of mediators late this spring and invite UMB faculty and staff to apply to join this team of volunteers.

Workplace mediation through WMS is a private conversation facilitated by trained UMB employees who provide the service for those who are involved in a work-related situation. Our goals are to help everyone feel heard and understood and for folks to reach a state where they feel comfortable continuing the conversation on their own or feel satisfied and pleased about a resolution that they reach in mediation.

Join us in helping folks plan for a better future. Visit our website and attend any of our information sessions to learn more about the process to become a WMS mediator.

Want to check us out before the information sessions? Join a Discovery Chat on Listening.

Discovery Chats on Listening

Listening is one of the biggest keys to effective communication (and part of UMB’s core value set of Respect and Integrity), yet few of us are taught how to listen well. Join Workplace Mediation Service staff and others at UMB to explore listening from each attendee's perspective, including yours, and discover how you can listen better.

Discovery Chats are informal conversations where you can learn as much or more than you share. Come ready to give and receive. Join as many chats as you’d like.
