University of Maryland, Baltimore Faculty Senate

Members of the Faculty Senate are elected representatives from all the faculty on the UMB campus.

The Faculty Senate is a conduit to gather information from faculty to present to University administration and for information to be passed on to faculty from UMB leadership.

Nominations are being sought for Faculty Senate representatives from the following schools (self-nominations are welcome): 

  • School of Dentistry (1)
  • School of Law (1)
  • School of Nursing (2)
  • School of Medicine (2)
  • School of Pharmacy (1)
  • School of Social Work (2)
  • Part-time faculty representative (1)
  • Adjunct faculty representative (1)

 Nominations are welcome through Friday, April 19.

The Faculty Senate’s year begins July 1 and ends June 30. The Faculty Senate meets monthly, September through June, primarily in person. Special meetings may be called by the president of the Senate, by the Advisory Council, by resolution of the Faculty Senate, or by petition signed by at least one-fourth of the senators.

Responsibilities of Faculty Senators include:

  • Senators are elected for three-year terms beginning July 1 of the year elected and are expected to attend all meetings of the Faculty Senate. Any senator with three or more unexcused absences in an academic year will be considered to have resigned.
  • Senators are expected to actively participate in committees and task forces.
  • Senators are expected to share information with faculty members from their schools.
  • Senators are expected to bring issues of concern for their school’s faculty to the attention of the senate.

Newly elected senators are welcomed to the June Senate meetings for orientation prior to their July 1 beginning of the three-year term.
