SSW Multicultural Community Potluck on Feb. 5 from 12:15-1:45 in the SSW, Room 2E29

While potlucks have long been a way to bring people together to share food, fellowship, and fun, a multicultural potluck is about so much more than a meal.  Multicultural potlucks provide a space for building community and connection while celebrating workplace diversity and inclusion.  No matter what the cuisine, each unique dish carries with it a story, a history, and a heritage, and offers an opportunity to cross borders and share new experiences.  In a world that feels increasingly divided, multicultural potlucks foster unity, break down barriers and strengthen bonds through the universal language of food.

On Monday, February 5, 2024, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) will be hosting the first annual SSW Multicultural Community Potluck from 12:15 – 1:45 pm in the SSW, room 2E29.  The DEIC is a convening body comprised of diverse stakeholders from across the School of Social Work including students, staff, faculty and alumni.  The mission of the DEIC is to foster and support the creation of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive School of Social Work community that is anti-racist and anti-oppressive, where everyone feels a sense of belonging.  Whether you have a little or a lot of time to give, there are many ways to contribute to the DEIC and make a difference.

For more information about the DEIC and/or the community potluck, please contact DEIC co-chairs, Jennifer Kelman, jkelman@sse.umaryland.edu or Nia Speaks, nia.speaks@ssw.umaryland.edu
