The Graduate Research Colloquium provides faculty with an ongoing platform to share their research endeavors with the University of Maryland School of Graduate Studies (UMSGS) and UMB communities. With the goal of fostering a supportive environment and advancing interprofessional collaboration, each virtual monthly session will include a faculty presentation followed by an opportunity for questions and feedback. This qualitative case study explores how online faculty perceive and experience their relationships with online students. The study investigates the factors shaping these relationships, focusing on communication methods, perceived engagement, and faculty practices that foster closeness or disconnect in online learning environments. Findings may inform strategies for enhancing online education.
