UM Institute for Health Computing Launches Optum Labs Core for Researchers
September 17, 2024The Optum Labs Core is now available to assist researchers in developing and conducting research projects using the wealth of data available in the Optum Labs Data Warehouse (OLDW). The OLDW database is one of the largest linked patient databases available in the U.S. It contains de-identified, longitudinal health information from medical and pharmacy claims, enrollment information, and electronic health records (EHR) for over 200 million commercial and Medicare Advantage enrollees across all 50 states and Washington, D.C. These data have been used in hundreds of publications and many successful NIH, PCORI, and foundation awards in a wide range of fields. Because there is a cost to accessing the data, projects typically require funding, and the Optum Labs Core is here to support investigators in the application process and upon receipt of funding.
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is one of five academic partners invited to join the Optum Labs research collaborative, which allows researchers across UMB schools to access the data. Led by Rozalina McCoy, MD, MS, director of precision medicine and population health at the University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing (UM-IHC) and associate professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, this new partnership will expand the scope of UMB’s research and informatics resources with the millions of records available at Optum Labs to facilitate new research opportunities and applications.
Researchers who are interested in pursuing a research collaboration with Optum Labs are invited to visit the UM-IHC Optum Core website for more information.
