As UMSON's AACN Essentials Champion, Dawn Mueller-Burke, PhD, CRNP, NNP-BC, assistant professor, serves as the primary liaison between UMSON and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), connecting UMSON with other institutions engaged in Essentials implementation. Quarterly meetings are held with AACN leadership to discuss progress and address challenges.

While UMSON is actively implementing the Essentials, AACN recently released valuable resources to support this journey. These include a new "Getting Started with the Essentials" guide, featuring a video and a written guide that outlines key steps for successful implementation.
Additionally, AACN has published an interactive timeline showcasing the milestones achieved during the Essentials implementation process.
AACN is offering a series of upcoming workshops, including a two-day virtual competency-based education (CBE) workshop on March 4 and March 7 and a simulation workshop on April 29 and April 30. Further details on these workshops will be announced soon.
Upcoming webinars include the Feb. 18 session on Integrating the Essentials and Quality Improvement Using the Million Hearts Initiative, which will focus on how nursing schools can incorporate modules from the CDC's Million Hearts Initiative into curricula.
The April 15 session features UMSON! It is focused on Navigating the Future Together: The Role of Academic-Practice Partnerships. Speakers from the AACN/American Organization for Nursing Leadership Academic-Practice Advisory Committee will discuss the important role of collaboration to meet shared goals, and will explore the successful 17-year partnership between the UMSON and the University of Maryland Medical System.
