Construction Begins at New School of Social Work Building Site
January 17, 2025The new year is here, and with it construction activities for the new University of Maryland School of Social Work building have begun in earnest.
Currently, surface demolition is underway. Pile driving for sheeting and shoring began during the week of Jan. 13-17. This will provide stability during excavation and keep workers safe. This work includes loud, intermittent hammering during construction hours (7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
The construction management team (Whiting-Turner) has their trailers on-site, which obtain 80 percent of the power they need from a solar photovoltaic array. Erosion and sediment controls required by the Maryland Department of the Environment during construction are in place. The site is fully enclosed and secure, and you may notice less street parking available in the area.
