UMB Environmental Services (EVS) is excited to celebrate International Cleaning Week from March 24 to 28, 2025. While this is not the first time UMB is participating in this annual celebration, this year marks the first time that EVS will be involving the larger University community through an awareness and appreciation campaign.
EVS provides services to 57 buildings at UMB, providing cleaning services for more than 6.3 million square feet of indoor University space. You may be most familiar with the staff in Custodial Services, the largest unit within EVS, who are responsible for cleaning internal spaces at the University. However, the other three units within EVS also work daily to keep our campus environment clean and healthy. The Moving, Recycling, and Special Events team transports recycling from UMB’s buildings and hauls bulk trash to keep our buildings clear of surplus property. The Pest Control team addresses current pest issues and utilizes preventative measures to keep our campus clean and safe. Finally, the EVS Clean Campus Ambassadors help keep nearly 10 acres of outdoor spaces clean and vibrant through litter pickup and trash removal.
During International Cleaning Week, each of the roughly 210 Environmental Services employees will receive a certificate of appreciation. Additionally, members of EVS will be tabling throughout the week at the following times and locations:
- Tuesday, March 25, 12-2 p.m., School of Nursing Lobby
- Wednesday, March 26, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., SMC Campus Center Lobby
- Thursday, March 27, 2-4 p.m., Health Sciences and Human Services Library
Stop by one of the tabling events to learn more about all of the services provided by EVS and show your appreciation! Even if you can’t make it to a tabling event, International Cleaning Week is a great time to show your gratitude for the EVS staff you see working in your area with a kind word of appreciation. If you have seen an individual or team within EVS living out Administration and Finance’s Guiding Principles, we encourage you to nominate them for EVS Employee of the Month.
