The University of Maryland, Baltimore is proud to host an interprofessional simulation event focused on inclusive health care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

In collaboration with Special Olympics, this half-day experience will bring together students from the schools of Nursing, Social Work, Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy to build skills, empathy, and advocacy in clinical care.

Event Highlights:

  • Introduction to the meaning and importance of inclusive health care
  • Conversations with Health Messengers and self-advocates from Special Olympics
  • Skill-building sessions on inclusive health practices
  • Interprofessional simulation with a Standardized Patient with IDD
  • Debrief and feedback with self-advocates and UMB faculty
