Paul Sacco and Rod Rose starting new project on the effects of sports gambling on bankruptcy.
February 12, 2025

Drs. Paul Sacco, Associate Professor, and Roderick Rose, Associate Professor, have received funding to study sports gambling legalization and economic well-being.
This study aims to measure the impact of sports gambling legalization debt levels and bankruptcy at the county level. This project will utilize a difference-in-differences approach, a statistical technique design suited to assessing whether a policy change (i.e., legalized sports gambling) has specific effects on communities where they are implemented compared with communities where policies remain unchanged. It is hoped that this research will influence future gambling policy. This study is funded by a grant from the International Center for Responsible Gaming.
