Three Tips to Kick Off Your Academic Year
September 30, 2025The 2025 Fall Kick-Off from Sept. 8-12 brought our UMB community together to launch into the new academic year. UMB Student Affairs organizes this week of activities to:
-
Connect students to resources, campus offices, and student organizations
-
Offer opportunities to engage, build community, and learn across all seven schools
-
Build a foundation for academic and co-curricular success
From the Campus Involvement Fair to the SMC Campus Center Connection Quest, more than 910 attendees participated in this weeklong series of events. Events took place in person, virtually, and in a hybrid format to ensure that all members of our community were able to take part.
As we celebrate a successful Kick-Off, the excitement doesn’t stop here. Fall is a perfect season to deepen your engagement and make the most of your UMB experience. Here are three ways to keep the momentum going:
1. Explore Leadership Opportunities
Whether through the President’s Student Leadership Institute, student organizations, or community engagement, UMB offers countless ways to grow as a leader. These programs help you build skills that matter while connecting you with peers across all seven schools.
2. Attend Signature Events
Fall Kick-Off is just the beginning. Throughout the semester, you’ll find symposiums, workshops, dialogues, and social gatherings designed to connect students to each other and to the larger Baltimore community. Keep an eye on The Elm, UMBengaged, and campus newsletters for upcoming events.
3. Build Your Community
Graduate and professional school can feel busy, but engagement starts with small steps. Attend an interest meeting, grab coffee with a new classmate, or join a study group. These connections not only enrich your UMB experience but also strengthen our campus culture of collaboration and support.
Fall Kick-Off reminded us that UMB thrives when students, faculty, and staff come together. Let’s carry that same energy forward, making this semester a time of growth, connection, and community.
