UMB YouthWorks Summer Hiring Program
February 12, 2025This year marks the 35th year of the University of Maryland, Baltimore participating in the Mayor's Office of Employment Development (MOED) Private Sector YouthWorks Summer Employment Program.
Qualified current and recent students ages 16 to 21 from Baltimore high schools and colleges are recruited to work as student employees for five weeks this summer from July 7 until Aug. 8.
- YouthWorks participants currently earn a minimum wage. Minimum wage this year is $15.00 an hour. The Office of Community and Civic Engagement (OCCE) will pay a 25 percent subsidy of each student's pay. The hourly rate will be charged through the OCCE funding profile. The remaining 75 percent will be charged to your account at the end of the YouthWorks program. The subsidy encourages campus participation and subsidizes the student's time away from the job for program-related activities.
- Supervisors who employ students under the age of 18 must adhere to UMB’s Minor’s Policy linked here: https://www.umaryland.edu/policies-and-procedures/library/administration/procedures/minors/.
- Participation in YouthWorks assumes a commitment to employ the student for the duration of the program. If you decided to have the student work beyond Aug. 8, your department will incur the entire cost of the additional work assignment, before and/or after the official program dates.
To participate, please complete the job order form located on the webpage:
https://www.umaryland.edu/oac/outreach/youthworks/youth-works-job-order-form/.
The completed job order form must be returned to Camille Givens-Patterson at Camille.GPatterson@umaryland.edu by March 21, 2025.
This is an excellent opportunity to nurture new students and expose them to the world of work, particularly in higher education. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
