A Council of University System Staff (CUSS) initiative, the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Staff Awards represent the highest honor bestowed by the Board of Regents for achievements of exempt and nonexempt staff employees from USM institutions. Nominees' successes should be beyond their full-time professional responsibilities' scope and exhibit a substantial impact on their department, school, and community.

As a USM institution, the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is able to select and submit up to five exempt and nonexempt staff, one for each award category.

Each awardee will receive a $2,000 stipend and plaque. Recipients will be announced in early 2026, with a formal presentation of awards by the board in the spring.

The five exempt award categories are:

  • Exceptional Contribution to the Institution and/or Unit
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
  • Effectiveness and Efficiency
  • Extraordinary Public Service for the University or Greater Community
  • Outstanding Service to Students

The five nonexempt award categories are:

  • Making a Difference to the Campus
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
  • Excellence in Performance
  • Excellence as a Team Player
  • Outstanding Role Model

Descriptions of the award categories can be found on the Staff Senate website here.  Deadline for nominations is Oct. 20.
